Thats pretty cool on their part - it shows they are sensitive to their player base (to a certain degree) and that they realize they cant take us too much for granted.

However, the server problems at launch are now server problems that have been going on for months.  Its getting to the point where it doesnt look like things are going to get appreciably better on any server in the weeks and months to come...

They will jan.  Remember this is the biggest selling game EVER. Then the fact that its mmo means that blizzard is having to create server power and support thats never before been seen.  And to top it off when WoW was released Blizzard employed about 200 employees and had no expectations of how big this game would be.  By the end of January they employed 750+ people.  That is HUGE companty expansion, the company went over triple in size in a litle over a months time, and they are still hireing more.  Dont doubt they are trying to do it right, but its hard to do right what hasnt been done before.

Are there more people on here than were on EQ or SWG?  Or, is it just that in initial sales its the biggest?  Remember, months ago they stopped selling games till March or April (they said at the time) to help with the server load.

I think theres 1.5 million subscribers worldwide. One of the problems they said was that they werent expected this many people to get the game at once so their servers werent prepared for such a heavy load in a short amount of time. They also added a lot of servers right after release to help with the amount of people.

Yeah this game is much bigger than EQ and SWG.  Its the biggest selling game ever and the biggest mmo game ever.  By a huge margin I might add.  The phenomanon of it all is that the game has monthly fees and it sold like this.  Monthly fees are part of the reason many other mmog's didnt go as big.

They did say they were stopping the sale of the games until march at one point, realistically it seemed like they stopped the sale for like a week ... i know cause after they announced that there wasnt a copy of the game in town for about a week.  Then low and behold, I walk into ebgames one night and there were about 50 copies all stacked up.  I think what it was is that blizzard quit shipping games for that time period, but the distributors already had mass quantities ordered and on the backburner. So, sales never really stopped.

Actually, the most popular MMORPG is Lineage/Lineage 2.  They have well over 2 million people.

Hard to get much accomplished when the routine maintenance is double the expected time...

Yeah i always though Swg was pretty big, but that graph really shows how fast world of warcraft grew.

Well this is interesting. It turns out that one of the reasons for more downtime was because there was a bug that let people create characters with names that already existed. So if someone created a character named Strato on SH, it would let them and if i tried to log in it wouldnt let me. Theres a thread on the general forums about it, but I cant get back onto the forums to link it. It also let you create both horde and alliance on the same server.

Am I the only one supprised that SWG still has so many subscribers?
I love Star Wars, but that game has been broken ever since it went live.
And the still havent done the combat fix that was promised more then a year ago.

Some people never learn...
