About Disciples of the Blade

Disciples of the Blade (DotB) is a WoW guild that arose from Tribes, Ultima Online, and Star Wars Galaxies. The guilds that fed the majority of our newly formed guild from SWG were The Trader's Guild, Azur Akun, and Rogue Squadron from the Tarquinas server. Together, we have united to form a new seperate guild for World of Warcraft. We strive to become a leader for all future MMO guilds to hold a standard to. We are honorable players, and we will lead by example.

Disciples of the Blade is different. We are in this for the long-haul. While all applicants will receive a fair trial period, we will not accept every application for membership because we feel it is better to have a close group of mature, intelligent, and ambitious players that know each other & each other's talents well than to have a large list of inactive guild members and useless accounts six months into the game. If your application leads us to believe that you are unsure about your decision to play the game, or can't promise us a quality trait that we can put to use and will need for the betterment of the guild, then you will be politely thanked & shooed to the next "all-accepting" guild. Inactive members will be pruned from the guild after 3-4 months of inactivity unless leadership knows of their situation ahead of time.

How old is this guild?

Some of us have been gaming together since the release of Tribes in 1998. It all started in a clan called Redstorm there. We've since moved through Ultima Online to a Player Association in Star Wars Galaxies in October of 2002 as The Traders' Guild, (running Trader's Town, the best damn commerce-based town on the server,) and then on to WoW in September of 2004 as Disciples of the Blade. We've picked up parts of additional guilds along the way to form who we are now.

Today, DotB is the longest-standing large guild on the Shattered Hand PvP server. We signed our charter within the first couple days after WoW was released.

Regarding the future of the guild, we expect to be playing many more MMO games together, for many years to come.

How many members are currently in your guild?

As of March 31, 2010, we have around 165 guild members (475 if you include alts).

Does this guild use a voice chat program? Does everyone use it?

Yes, and just about everyone uses it.

Ventrilo is definitely encouraged if you own a microphone or headset and prefer talking to people as opposed to typing all the time. While optional for general playing, it is highly recommended at all times. ALL guild members are required to be on Ventrilo during every high level DotB raid. (In other words, if you don't have it, get it.)

Click here for DotB Ventrilo server information.

Do you use DKP?

Yes. We use a zero-sum DKP system that starts everyone at 0 DKP. You can purchase items that put you into negatives. Thus new people start around the middle instead of at the bottom.

The DKP page can be found here.

You can't join the guild and start spending DKP immediately, however. During your recruitment period you can earn DKP but not spend it. How long this recruitment period lasts is found in another FAQ question.

We have a larger set of rules regarding DKP, found here (you just need to be logged in to view them). The major goal of our DKP system is to keep loot distribution fair to veteran members and to newcomers alike. We feel that our system accomplishes this goal.

Who runs Disciples of the Blade?

A High Council consisting of experienced and loyal guild members selected by the Guild Master, aid in running this guild. You can find out more about their responsibilities (and their names) by clicking the "Guild Structure" link on the left.

Can I be a member of the High Council?

This occurs at the Guild Master's judgment. He will take note and add to any positions that are open within the HC as needed, so long as the member wishes to take on that responsibility, has the experience to know what that responsibility consists of, and realizes the importance of this position to the rest of the guild.

Does Biggun make Atho cry?

Yes :(

Are you actively recruiting?

Go to the WoW Recruitment page to find out if we are recruiting your class. The Recruiting Forums also often contains up to date information about the status of recruiting (look for a sticky topic at the top).

How long does the DotB recruitment process usually take?

On average, it takes several weeks minimum for most recruits to either be promoted to the Soldier rank, or to be removed. However, this is far from a guaranteed number and simply can't be given some pre-defined time limit due to the fact that some take longer to "get to know" than others, and as such, it needs to be handled individually. Each application is processed with careful consideration of many factors by DotB leadership. When applications are coming in more quickly than average, it can take up to 6-8 weeks to process apps. This should not have the potential to put anyone off. It simply means that leadership cares enough to filter out problem members before they get the chance to create drama. In the end, it's all for the best.

Do you allow players with multiple characters in other guilds join DotB?

If you have characters in other guilds on the Shattered Hand server, you may not join this guild. To be in DotB, one must have all alternate Shattered Hand characters either unguilded or playing with our tag over their head.

What classes/professions are you currently accepting?

Our guild caters to all races, classes, and professions. Crafters, fighters, healers, and any other future race/class/profession combos that can be found in World of Warcraft will be welcomed, so long as the guild isn't overburdened with too many of a given class. We've attempted to avoid basing acceptance into the guild on race/class/profession alone, as none of those are an accurate reflection of the maturity of a player; however, we have to close recruitment to specific classes for the purpose of keeping an equal raiding balance in the guild's high end raids.

Check the WoW Recruitment thread to see if we are recruiting for your class.

Do you believe in an equal balance of fighter/healer/crafter strength or numbers?

We believe that the one thing that will lead us to being known as a top class guild over the long term is a continual, steady pace of recruiting mature, intelligent, and fun-loving players to the guild. This includes an equal number of fighters, mages, healers, and crafters to aid our continually growing guild's strength. However, we generally do our best to ensure that applicant acceptance is based on as little "character" information and as much "individual player" information as often as possible.

How does a player benefit by applying to DotB?

We want to assist every guild member reach their desired goal in game. To do this we must support each other and have some fun along the way. Check our Guild Charter. If you like what you see, then sign up via one of the Recruitment links or make a forum post and say hello. As far as how you benefit, let's just say our gquit rate is extremely low.
